Position Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Senior Accounting Manager
Supervises: None

Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and reports for our corporate-owned and corporate-managed preschools. This position applies sound accounting principles to analyze financial information, prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and support the integrity of the company’s financial reporting.

In addition, the Senior Accountant will assist in the continuous improvement of accounting procedures and internal controls to safeguard company assets, contribute to system enhancements, and support the Finance team in driving operational excellence across a growing multi-entity business.
Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Close

  • Perform general ledger activities, including preparing and posting journal entries such as accruals, prepaid amortizations, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Lead the monthly close process for assigned corporate and managed centers, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Review center-level financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies.
 
Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and analytical reports, providing variance explanations and insights to management.
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for the annual external audit.
  • File annual reports, resolve tax notices, and obtain state or local tax IDs for new corporate and managed schools.
 

 

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by helping optimize accounting processes and workflows, including leveraging ERP tools like NetSuite to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Maintain clear documentation of accounting processes and internal controls to support compliance and audit readiness.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of Blackline to automate account reconciliations, close tasks, and improve overall efficiency and control in the close process. Help maintain accurate, timely reconciliations in Blackline and ensure issues are escalated and resolved promptly.

Cross-Functional Support & Projects

  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and accounting support to the Accounting Department and broader business as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives, collaborating with peers in Accounting, Operations, and other departments.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward certification strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of general accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity or multi-location environment.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and accounting principles, with hands-on experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail; takes pride in delivering high-quality, accurate work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software (NetSuite or similar ERP preferred).
  • Eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a dynamic, collaborative Finance team.
